I agree that players go to great programs, because they want the best, and they should.
I never said Henry Carr or EC coaches didn't work hard. They put in alot of time to develop their teams.

They still recruit, from all over Toronto.

I wonder how the Henry Carr coaches feel when their kids go prep.

Slap in the face after all the work they put in with these kids. Then again, aren't Carr coaches associated with CIA bounce?

Carr is always going to have a solid program, alomg with the Eastern's, Vaughan's, Oakwood's, Pickering's and Mt's. This is what they do. They have strong basketball programs, that will have decent to strong coaches, decent to strong players and trying to continue the cycle by developing younger kids at the grade school level particularly in there geographical areas and some across the city. It happens in every major city, in every sport that is played at the high school level. You can basically just say, its part of the game! Big shout outs to Miquel Martin by the way, who is a phenom iin the making. He put some big numbers up at this tourney and will continue to do so. My suggestions is to play senior youngin!

Or maybe their recruiting program is doing a really good job.
Great Programs draw good players, that in itself is recuiting,a poor program can push away good players that want to be challenged at a higher level. These good players then can develop into great players by practicing every day with other self motivated and talented players.

Lots of hard work is put in by good coaches, players appreciate their efforts, the flip side is the weaker coaches that just put in the minimum time into their teams are exposed and players jump ship. These are the same coaches that cry foul everytime they lose a good player by way of transfer.

These players aren't stolen, they are just looking out for their best interests, would anyone complain about a student transfering to another school because of a stronger math program? Hell no! School athletics has way toooooo many restrictions that aren't in the best interest of the student athlete.

Good Coaches like Melnik that go the extra mile to help kids will always attract talent.
This thread is exhilirating. The poor little Eastern Commerce Saints get man handled by the big bad Father Henry Carr Crusaders, and now we hear the recruiting accusation? If that is not the icing on the cake, I do not know what is.

I'm curious to see if any other regions will follow Peel's lead and bring in rules that restrict incoming grade 9's from outside of a school's border from playing sports unless they are in a special program (e.g. French Immersion or A.P.) or fit circumstances similar to some of the OFSAA transfer exceptions.

It's interesting to note that recruiting seems to be far less prevalent in Peel than many other regions yet they have taken the lead in this area.

This may not be the popular opinion, but I hope not.
Maybe varsity sports should be a special program. an atlete may be stuck at a school with a poor athletic program or no program at all. The chances of a student receiving an athletic scholarship (Canadian or otherwise) diminishes if they are not seen or able to play anywhere at all. Rep basket is very expensive. Ontario select teams can be very political with their selections and costs alot as well. High school ball may be all the athletes' family can afford.
If transfering to a school with an athletic program enable the student to participate in a program, great. If they receive a scholarship offer to continue their education, that is great. Not that transferring to a particular school can gaurentee anything. If you are told that, it is a flat out lie.
I just hope that the high schools are enforcing education because without the grades you can kiss that scholarship goodbye!
I know that sports is not a priority in Canada, however, the colleges and universities do offer athletic scholarships.
Hopefully transferring to a high school with a good athletics program will keep kids from transferring to America where the stakes are really high. Sports is big business there ans the student athlete is just a commodity.

Peel is strict with transfer rules and has been recently because they can afford to do so. Even if they couldn't, peel hasn't been based off of sports like other regions have. The population of peel region has been growing and with that has become a talent pool. From d'youville to campion and the other new upcoming schools. I would be surprised if Toronto districts begun to implement the same rules which in turn would lead to an even greater number of Toronto players leaving for the border. In the end, it's a give or take situation.

Transfer rules are a joke. Basketball players that end up at basketball schools are NEVER ineligible. Its the kids who transfer for legit reasons that always get the shaft.
