    OFSAA PREVIEW Empty OFSAA PREVIEW

Post by CoachGrazNobles Tue Nov 19, 2013 12:12 am

Here's what to look for in the various AA, AAA and AAAA classifications at OFSAA 2013.

AA (Windsor) - General Amherst, runner-up a season ago, returns as the #3 seed, playing at home, and underrated. In the SWOSSAA final at Chatham John McGregor, they overcame foul trouble and a 12-point opening quarter deficit to beat the Panthers by 3. Look for GA to make the final. The SOSSAA region was awarded the top two seeds in #1 Centennial and #2 St. Francis.

AAA (London) - SWOSSAA champion Sarnia Northern Collegiate (2012 Bronze Medal winners) is under-seeded. The committee gave the Vikings a 6-seed despite the fact that a majority of the 2012 roster returns for another run at a medal. This tourney will also mark the end of Kassidy Crowe's career. Crowe, a talented guard will attend Canisius College in Western, N.Y. on scholarship in September. Of course, this tournament features top-ranked St. Mary's (GHAC). While the Crusaders are a familiar sight with veterans like Buttenham, Hanaka and Giannattasio taking the court, they will be led by former assistant coach Nate McKibbon - who took over the head coaching responsibilities in mid-October.
St. John's College (CWOSSAA) will be the 2-seed. Louis-Riel, who features the, arguably, the tournament's top play making point guard, will be the 3-seed.

AAAA (Lakeshore) - The best player in the province, Kia Nurse, will return to the site of 2011 championship when she led top-ranked St. Thomas More (GHAC) to the Gold Medal. While Nurse will lead the Knights as they look to win a third straight OFSAA title, this tournament may serve as a coming out party for freshman sensation Hailey Brown.
Blessed Pope John Paul II will be the #2-seed. Sarnia St. Patrick, the 6-seed, could surprise by reaching the final 4.

Championship Games are scheduled to tip-off at the following times on Saturday, November 23:

    AA - 7 p.m. @ Catholic Central
    AAA - 7: 30 p.m. @ Regina Mundi
    AAAA - 2 p.m. @ St. Anne
