Looking at the lineup, this could be an interesting tournament with plenty of contenders. It's a shame that Richardson isn't back to defend their title but that probably means its wide open.

Ascension is one of the Peel pre-season favorites and D'Youville, despite losing many seniors from last year, will showcase the best of two very good junior teams the past two years. BCSS is going to be very strong and could contend for the Peel title. Dunbarton had a couple of very good tournaments recently and will challenge Pickering and Richardson this year in Durham. Richview is the early favourite in Toronto West and looks good to go to AAA OFSAA. Speaking of which,St. Theresa is one of the early season favourites to win AAA OFSAA this year and has looked impressive against southern Ontario teams in tournaments so far this season. St. Francis from Niagara is a frequent OFSAA AA team and should contend for the provincial title this year. West Hill is the pre-season favourite in Toronto East and Martingrove, while not as strong as last year, might also challenge for a spot at AAA OFSAA again this year. All of these teams have a chance of making the final.

    The rest of the line-up:

St. Peter had the best junior team outside of the GTA last year but will be young with a lot of grade 11s. Emery is hard to figure out but Toronto North will be up for grabs now that the top Downsview players have gone prep. Carmel will be young and hungry but might contend of the transfers are approved. It's a down year for Xavier and Campion and both struggled at Silverthorn this weekend. Marcellinus is hard to figure; I haven't heard anything about them this year and Notre Dame, last year's Rimrocker finalists, are an enigma. They could make the finals and they could go 0-3.

Bikram Gill is playing for Next Level Academy in the newly developed National Prep Athletic Association.

    http://www.flagrantfouls.com/2010/11/kiski-tip-off-day-one-recap/

Which should mean he is ineligible to play for Ascension

Brian Rouse is also an ex-Ascension player on that team

Campion should be an interesting team this year. They are very young but are a solid team, with good coaching. Not the same coaching staff as last year. As well, they play more of a team game then previous years where they had the big 3. Against us they were down by 11 after the 1st quarter and down by 16 with 4 minutes to go and they kept working and came back in the game. Against Jarvis again they were down by about 15 and came back to tie it to send it into overtime.

Xavier is huge and it seems they just need a little bit more time to gel. Should be a lot of parity in peel again this year.

    Hey Coach Pahis,

Congrats on your tournament victory at Silverthorn/Nike tournament. You have a well balanced team and of course they are coached well by you. Your hard work with the boys over there has obviously payed off the last couple of yours.

We appreciate your kind words about our team. We did struggle at times but like you said we fought back. Our boys are very young and will get their lumps this year but there will be no excuses from us, we will work hard and show respect on the court. It was good to see most of our boys playing at the senior level for the first time and how the would respond to senior competition.

Good luck the rest of the season coach.

Bikram is still a student in good standing at Ascension. His eligibility is not in question. Brian Rouse is not at Next Level - he is with REDA.

Thats amusing, you cant compare a top level prospect and an average peel guard. Not taking anything away from Camall. But please dont say that ever again!

Bikram is definitely a top level prospect but Camall Brown is definitely NOT an average Peel guard. First of all, it is not a fair comparison given that the comparison is between a point guard and a big man.

Since I have been at Ascension, I have coached or been part of the coaching team for a few players that have gone on to play NCAAA ... Dale Parsons, AJ Mandani, Freddy Appiah ... Camall definitely has the skills to be mentioned with those others.

true. Cant compare a big and a guard.... but there is no comparison if you look at it player wise and not position...overall player.

How can Bikram play Next Level and at Ascension, what would OFSAA say? He is treading in very dangerous water, where are the league associations and OFSAA going to draw the line with these new prep teams. Are they high schools? Should kids be able to play for both? How is it permissible for kids to play both?

hoopsCanada ... I hope you get a chance to see Camall play. I don't think you will be disappointed. I am confident he will let his play on the court speak for itself.

canadianhoopsfan - Bikram is not enrolled in the Next Level Basketball Academy (and it is not an academic institution) - he is definitely a student at Ascension. For some added exposure, he joined them for one tournament in PA. He is not a transfer student (obviously, he did not attend or play for another high school team). It is no different than players who play rep or AAU. Of course, had he registered, he would have had to join the local high school (White Oaks) for the semester (but only for academics, and he would be inelligible to play in OFSAA sanctioned competition). That being said, he is still recovering from an injury so I can't comment on his status for the Humber tournament.

I believe that should make him ineligible. A prep team plays high school ball and Ascension is a high school. Ascension should check with OFSAA to make sure all is good. Better to find and cover your bases then to play him and get the victories taken away.

Prep teams do not play high school ball. That issue was already settled by OFSAA after NEDA folded and all the players who stayed at St. Mary's were declared eligible (with one exception who was ineligible because she played with the senior national team.)

OFSAA treats prep programs the same way they treat other levels of club ball.

Bikram plays the 5 on his school team probably because he is the tallest. But if you have ever seen him in action his offensive skill set would allow him to play the perimeter. In fact, he steps out for 3's and brings up the ball for Ascension on the regular.
