Is this thing legit or what? I thought you have to be the leading scorer to get invited but how come some guy on my sqaud who barely scores 5 points a game (PG) does?

Me, and 2 other people on my team got it. One of them is our leading scorer, but our school isn't that known.
I got it last year, but i didn't go beacuse i wasn't sure if it was legit, but i think this year im gonna go, cuz i have 2 other people that would go.

The invitations for the USA Junior Nationals are mainly to identify players who may have slipped under the radar. The invitational tryouts take place in Michigan and you pay your way for the opportunity to showcase yourself in front of US College coaches. However, the US College coaches are not big time D1 Schools...but NAIA schools, D2 schools, D3 schools and US junior/community colleges. It cost a lot of money to recruit players....so if you can bring a whole bunch of potential recruits to one location...have them pay their way...then it costs the college coaches very little money from their recruiting budget to take a look.

They send out a lot of invitations to people all across Ontario hoping that some people will take advantage of the opportunity. In the end,the organizers hope to make some money and the coaches are just hoping to find possibly a handful of players ...a few diamonds in the rough, hidden gems that managed to escape college recruiters. By far the majority of people who attend US Junior Nationals will not end up with any substantial except for the experience and opportunity of playing some ball in the US.

You got to take it for what it is worth....be realistic about your ability. If you're a talented player who does not get a lot of exposure, then this may give you the platform to showcase your talents south of the border. If you're an average, decent Canadian player then your chances of really turning heads and obtaining a scholarship are slim and none. Don't fool yourself! You can still pay your money, go have some fun and experience something a little different. Too many people think if they attend this event that they'll get a scholarship! That's not true! If you are uniquely talented, you have a chance...coaches don't give valuable scholarship money to mediocre high school basketball players... as I said before...people have to honest about their game and what they' re trying to accomplish.

Am I going to have some fun or do I really have a chance of playing NAIA, JUCO or NCAA D2/3 ball?

I have had players attend the camp and they did not feel it was a valuable experience. Having said that, I really like rerun's comments about the situation--if you take it for what it is worth and you are a talented player who does not have the opportunity to play in front of next-level coaches, then it may be a good experience.

They identify you through the newspaper as the leading scorer in a game.
