This is a great topic by the way. To Public Enemy and The Scout (thanks for the kind words by the way); fellas, its just my opinion. I'm a proponent of "building" a better talent base and keeping the players here. As well, our organization takes teams to many quality US tournaments every year. We definitely want to get our kids exposure at the college and university level. There are enough summer travel organizations such as, Grassroots, CIA/Bounce, St David etc etc that are doing their due diligence in bringing these players to the "better" tournaments for exposure. If given the right circumstances and direction (with no strings attached) a good portion of our GTA kids can get D1,2 or 3 tickets.

I still think that there are a few exceptions that should go down to prep-school, which I stated in an earlier post. Guys..................its just my opinion! If a kid really wants to go down to prep-school, for whatever reason, we as coaches must support them and do whatever we can to assist them.

There is no right or wrong answer to this topic. As long as we do what we can to help these kids, thats the bottom line.

I can tell you that a number of current recruits turned down D1 for CIS. They did not play AAU but got their exposure through high school and mainly OBA. Scoutes are at the OBA tournaments. If you have elite bball skills they will find you.
What I still don't understand is the JuCo route.

Canada Basketball vs. Prep School - Page 2 Empty Don't Blame the MEDIA OUTLETS

Post by basketballbuzz.ca on Fri Jun 19, 2009 2:20 pm

I think media is an important issue that needs to be addressed. In fact, there have been plenty start-up media outlets in the past that simply failed because of the lack of corporate funds, vision, but most importantly the lack of support by the basketball community in this country.

Basketball in this country has come a long way and it will continue to grow since the dynamics of the country are changing and we at BasketballBuzz.ca are doing our part in helping promote canadian basketball. Our dedicated collaborative media outlet gives users, not editors the control to decide which collections of news stories are relevant and important by voting and displaying the most popular content to the front page.

Here are some ways you can help the basketball community in this country grow:

    1. Join the movement by registering an account at - http://basketballbuzz.ca/register.php
    2. Update/modify your profile with your details.
    3. Submit articles to the community that you think deserve the necessary attention
    4. Establish yourself as community leader not a follower by interacting, voting, commenting and rewarding the people that write and provide great stories about the canadian basketball community (Good Karma)
    5. Write your own articles and host them on the basketballbuzz community for others to buzz up (share your own thoughts, ideas and commentary with the community, if its relevant it will get attention)
    6. Invite others to join the community and become leaders not followers.[/b]
